Male Support Worker – Complex Care – South Shields, Tyne-and-Wear

We are currently seeking outgoing and confident support workers who are keen to build up their experience within complex care. We require a male support worker to join our team in South Shields, to work in our client’s home.

The successful support worker will provide complex care support for our male client who is living with a spinal injury; duties include but are not limited to: personal care, moving and handling, medication administration, catheter care and management and pressure area care. Our client also has bi-polar disorder and can present with challenging behaviours and behaviours of concern; it is essential that support workers are proactive in identifying and preventing triggers that may cause frustration and anxiety. 

The ideal support worker will have experience of working within a mental health and/or complex care setting however this is not essential as we will provide a range of specialist training which is tailored to the individual needs of our client. 

Support workers will be required to commit to working a minimum of 20 hours per week including alternate weekends (08:00 – 20:00 days or 20:00 – 08:00). We are offering a highly competitive pay rate of up to £9.51, dependent on experience.

As a Support Worker, you will be responsible for:
• Personal care
• Medication administration
• Catheter care and management
• Moving and handling
• Pressure area care
• Spinal care (awareness and understanding of Autonomic Dysreflexia)

The ideal Support Worker will have:
• A diploma level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent (preferred but not essential)
• A current enhanced DBS on the update service (preferred but not essential) 
• Previous paid experience in Health and Social Care in the UK
• Good knowledge of safeguarding and person centred care
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Good understanding of professional boundaries
• Ability to use own initiative and work as part of wider team.
