Support Worker – Learning disabilities – Corfe Mullen, Dorset

We are currently looking for support workers who would like to develop their skills and experience within learning disabilities and autism to join our expanding team. We have a male client living in the Corfe Mullen area who requires a learning disabilities support worker to provide day to day assistance within the family home and out in the community. 

Learning disabilities support workers will be responsible for providing a high level of care and supervision for our client who has learning disabilities and severe epilepsy. The successful candidate will have had experience of working within secure units, a residential setting or have worked within a SEN School. Learning disabilities and autism support workers will need to have a consistent and structured approach to work; you will also be proactive in identifying and preventing triggers that can cause anxiety and frustration leading to challenging behaviours. 

To support you with the unique demands of our packages we provide a range of specialist training which is tailored to the individual needs of our client. This training includes the following; Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA), Bespoke Autism Training and Positive Behavioural Support.

You will be required to commit to working a minimum of 20 hours per week; we are offering a variety of shifts Monday to Friday. This great new opportunity offers learning disabilities and autism support workers a competitive pay rate ranging from £9 to £12 per hour, dependent on experience. Due to the requirements of this role you will need to have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

As a learning disabilities support worker, you will be responsible for:
• Prompting personal care
• Assist with day to day tasks and activities
• Accessing the community
• Epilepsy management/seizure awareness
• Promoting choice and independence
• Providing boundaries and direction around positive behaviours
• Identifying and preventing triggers that may cause anxiety and or challenging behaviours
• Medication administration

The ideal learning disabilities support worker will have:
• A diploma level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent (preferred but not essential)
• A current enhanced DBS on the update service (preferred but not essential) 
• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
• Previous paid experience in Health and Social Care in the UK (Learning disabilities and autism)
• Good knowledge of safeguarding and person centred care
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Good understanding of professional boundaries
• Ability to use own initiative and work as part of wider team
