James' blog - Happy Christmas

I've never written or even read a 'blog' before so you will have to forgive me if I seem to be a bit behind the times and no doubt you will put me right if I am going wrong. One of the problems is as you will see from the photographs that I am extremely old and therefore not up to date with all the latest technology. I don’t tweet or link-in with anybody and my idea of social media is something like a letter or a phone call or, at the most extreme, an e-mail. You can tell from this that I am a bit of a stuffy old f—t.

Having got that off my chest I would like to start by making one or two modifications to the “James story” that has been posted on the Pulse Healthcare website. Firstly I was in the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries unit at the Northern and General Hospital in Sheffield; a truly wonderful place where many of Pulse's clientele will have been treated. Part of the rehabilitation arrangements carried out by the hospital was and is to resettle their patients safely and securely within their home community. The process of selection of a suitable agency was a three way conversation between the hospital, the Waveney PCT, as it was in those days, now of course a CCG, and my wife, Harriet and I. Pulse came out top in the beauty contest and we have worked closely together ever since.

I have learned many things in my life; one of them is that people work much more happily in settled teams, in which team spirit and team loyalty become important, in other words everyone looks after everyone else. I am pleased to say that Pulse are learning this lesson and having had a few battles on this subject I think now we are all winning. Certainly I have an excellent team of carers and a case manager. I know I will not be able to keep them forever but if I could my family and I would be very happy.

On that note Happy Christmas to one and all and I hope 2015 brings you all you wish for. I will blog again – you have been warned.
